Types of Cardiac Catheterization
Left heart catheterization examines the coronary arteries and left ventricle and is used most often to diagnose coronary artery disease, while right heart catheterization measures pressures in the heart's right side and pulmonary arteries, useful for heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. Access is typically gained through the wrist (radial) or groin (femoral) artery, with radial access increasingly preferred for faster recovery.
