Types of Gastrectomy

Partial (subtotal) gastrectomy removes the diseased portion of the stomach while preserving the remainder, often used for tumors in a specific region or complicated ulcers. Total gastrectomy removes the entire stomach, typically for more extensive or higher-located cancers, requiring the surgeon to connect the esophagus directly to the small intestine, and both can be performed via open or minimally invasive (laparoscopic/robotic) techniques.
