Types of Breast Reconstruction

Implant-based reconstruction uses saline or silicone implants, often with a tissue expander first to stretch the skin, while autologous reconstruction uses the patient's own tissue, commonly from the abdomen, back, or thighs, to rebuild a more natural-feeling breast. Reconstruction can be done immediately at the time of mastectomy or delayed until after cancer treatment is complete.
