Types of Nerve Conduction Study (NCS)
NCS is often performed alongside electromyography (EMG), which assesses the electrical activity of muscles themselves, together providing a complete picture of whether a problem originates in the nerve, the muscle, or the connection between them. Motor nerve conduction studies assess nerves controlling movement while sensory nerve conduction studies evaluate nerves responsible for sensation, and both may be tested depending on the suspected condition.
