Damage Control Surgery in Devale, Pune, Maharashtra

What makes damage control surgery different from normal surgery?

It deliberately prioritizes speed and survival over complete repair in the first operation, addressing definitive reconstruction only once the patient's body is stable enough to tolerate it.

How risky is damage control surgery?

It's reserved for the most critically injured patients, so outcomes reflect the severity of trauma itself, with survival around 75% in high-grade trauma cases thanks to this staged approach.

Will more surgeries be needed afterward?

Yes, staged procedures are a planned part of this strategy, and your trauma surgery team will explain the expected sequence based on your specific injuries.

How long will the patient be in the ICU?

This varies widely depending on injury severity, but ICU care is a standard part of recovery between staged operations to manage physiology and monitor for complications.

Can a patient fully recover after damage control surgery?

Many patients do recover well with this approach, which exists specifically to give critically injured patients the best chance at survival before addressing the full extent of repair — the trauma team will discuss a realistic outlook based on individual injuries.
