Types of Echocardiogram
A transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE), performed by moving a probe over the chest wall, is the standard first-line test, while a transoesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) passes a small probe down the oesophagus for a closer, more detailed view of the heart, often used before certain surgeries. Stress echocardiography combines the ultrasound with exercise or medication-induced stress to assess how the heart performs under exertion.
