Eating oily fish twice weekly has better evidence than capsules. Supplements clearly lower triglycerides at prescription doses; benefits for general cardiovascular prevention in over-the-counter doses are modest at best.
Two servings of oily fish weekly — mackerel, sardine, surmai, rohu — has better supporting evidence than over-the-counter capsules.
Prescription-strength preparations do lower triglycerides substantially. Standard supplements contain far less EPA/DHA than the label implies, so check the actual content.
